• NOTE: Age listed refers to the character’s age and not the actor’s.

• Clemma Diggins: (40’s/50’s) The narrator of the play, an insightul and devoted long-serving African-American housekeeper for the Hines family. She not only helps in resolving family issues, but has to deal with personal relationship challenges of her own.

• Burt Hines: (50’s) The family patriarch, a divorced, recovering workaholic who is convalescing from a heart attack. He is a nurturing father and still carries a torch for his ex-wife, Annie, with hopes to rekindle their romance when she visits.

• Josie Hines: (mid 20’s) Burt's daughter, a young woman in her twenties who has just broken off her engagement to Kenny. She is sorting out complicated romantic feelings for Kenny’s friend Ray, as well as dealing with unresolved issues with her mother.

• Annie: (50’s) Burt's ex-wife, she is a chic, worldly woman with a sometimes clumsy but deeply felt desire to reconnect with her daughter.

• Kenny: (mid 20’s). A Harvard law student and Josie's newly ex-fiancé. He is an intense and well-spoken young man who is trying to figure out where his relationship with Josie went wrong and whether or not he can get it back.

• Ray: (mid 20’s) An aspiring writer and Kenny’s best friend. He had a brief fling with Josie the previous summer and arrives at the cabin with a date, further complicating Josie's romantic feelings.

• Vinnie Bavasi: (25-32) A young, gangster-like tough guy from Miami. He provides comic relief with his charmingly misused vocabulary and inflated sense of importance.

• Sammii: (mid 20’s) A beautiful but dim-witted model who arrives as Ray's date.

• Lewis: (40’s/50’s) Clemma's estranged husband, who arrives uninvited. He is a weary man who has had a difficult life since leaving Clemma years ago.
