The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

Auditions:

Sept 17, 18

Director - Heather Kilbreth
25th-annual-putnam-county-spelling-bee-logo.jpg

Prepare for a hilariously heartwarming holiday adventure with "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever." Chaos ensues when the notorious Herdman siblings – the town's most mischievous kids – decide to join the annual Christmas pageant.

Beth Bradley, our young narrator, guides us through this whirlwind of a tale that beautifully illustrates how goodness can sprout from the unlikeliest places. The Herdmans, despite their wild antics, bring a fresh, unconventional take to the traditional Christmas story.

Reluctant director, Grace Bradley, and her family strive to prevent what they foresee as a pageant disaster. Yet, it's the untamed energy of the Herdman clan that ends up transforming the Christmas tale in ways the town never anticipated.

"The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" blends comedy, unexpected revelations, and the spirit of Christmas into a memorable holiday classic. A must-see this season, it redefines the festive tale in a refreshingly chaotic manner.

"Play On!" is a rollicking comedy that takes you behind-the-scenes of a theater group struggling to put on a play amidst a flurry of hilarious misadventures. As the beleaguered director attempts to wrangle a motley crew of eccentric actors, a confused tech team, and a meddling playwright, chaos predictably ensues. Add to the mix a script that keeps changing until opening night, and you've got a madcap journey through the tumultuous world of amateur theatre. "Play On!" is an unpretentious, laughter-inducing tribute to the joy, madness, and unscripted humor of life in the theater, offering an irresistibly fun night at the playhouse.

Character Descriptions

Characters who are Actors/Actresses in the Play "Murder Most Foul":

Henry Benish (male, 40s-60s):  A man who tries to please, especially his wife Polly.  He stutters when nervous and has a difficult time staying on track (plays Lord Dudley in the play)

Polly Benish (female, 40s-60s):  An insecure diva.  She loves the attention of center-stage.  She is quick to take offense at any slight, either real or imagined (plays Lady Margaret in the play)

Marla “Smitty” Smith (female, mid-late teens):  A pretty but awkward young girl.  She is a reluctant actress who suffers from stage fright and often forgets her lines (plays Doris the Maid in the play)

Saul Watson (male, 30s upward):  A bit of a jokester, he loves to stir things up.  His favorite victim is Polly because she is so easy to get a rise out of. Sometimes indulges in a little “liquid courage” off-stage (plays Dr Rex Forbes in the play)

Billy Carew (male, mid-late 20s):  A handsome, high-spirited young man.  He develops a crush on Violet while rehearsing (plays Stephen Sellers in the play)

Violet Imbry (female, mid-late 20s):  A pretty face behind which medical science may someday discover a brain.  She knows her lines, just not always what they mean (plays Diana Lassiter in the play)

Characters who are on the Production Team of the Play "Murder Most Foul":

Aggie Manville (female, 30s+):  the stage manager and prompter, tough and patient.  She is almost “bomb-proof” regarding theatrical disasters.

Gerry Dunbar (female, 40s+):  the director, who is determined to pull together the troubled troupe of thespians, without strangling any of them (or the pretentious playwright)

Louise Pearey (female, 25-40):  the sound-and-lighting-and-set-design technician.  The only thing she doesn’t do backstage is dress the actors.  A bit of an Eeyore.

Phyllis Montague (female, 40s+):  the playwright. A bit ditzy and self-centered, she doesn’t understand why everyone objects to her “little tinkering” with the script

Dec 10, 11

Director - Michael Pisacane
25th-annual-putnam-county-spelling-bee-logo.jpg

"Crimes of the Heart" is a richly textured, Pulitzer Prize-winning play that beautifully blends comedy and tragedy. It centers around the three Magrath sisters, reuniting in their Mississippi hometown: Lenny, the eldest, shouldering her loneliness and the responsibility of holding the family together; Meg, the middle sister, returning home with a failed singing career and a fragile emotional state; and Babe, the youngest, who’s facing serious legal trouble after a shocking domestic incident. As they confront past resentments, manage present trials, and grapple with an uncertain future, their quirky, flawed, yet immensely relatable characters shine through. Imbued with Southern charm and sharp humor, "Crimes of the Heart" explores the themes of resilience, forgiveness, and the deep bonds of sisterhood, rendering an evocative portrayal of love, loss, and laughter.
